Archive: St Ives
In 1956, Harris moved to the arts community of St Ives, Cornwall and in 1958 in St Ives he met and later married the Tasmanian born painter Gwen Leitch. Gwen Leitch was awarded an Arts Council Porthmeor Studio in 1956, which they shared for fifteen years. Harris was an active part of the St Ives arts community. Collaborations: music and spoken word poetry
Harris has had a long, abiding interest in poetry and was involved in public readings at various UK galleries and arts events during the 50s and 60s. Most recently he has collaborated with Jazz musician Derek Pascoe on 'Under Milkwood' that was narrated by Harris, first performed at Elder Hall, University of Adelaide and released on CD by Fine Poets Australia.
My Father’s Table: 80th year celebration exhibition, Light Square Gallery, Adelaide
Harris has exhibited in Australia (Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart) and the UK. In late 2012, to celebrate his 80th year, a large exhibition featuring 50 recent figurative and abstract oil-on-canvas, was held at Light Square Gallery. The exhibition titled ‘My Father’s Table’ included a painting in memoriam to his long time close friend Tristram Cary.
